We’re forming a new working group to improve our written culture and our documentation system. The intention of this group is to address a long-standing and significant piece of organizational debt we all struggle with everyday:
- Knowing what should be written down
- Where it should be stored
- How to keep it current
- How do we find information
The ideal working group size is no more than 5 people, but because this initiative spans the entire Banno organization, we have a slightly larger group with someone from every team (Analysts, Design, Engineering, Infra, IS, Product, and Support/Ops).
If it sounds like this is a big endeavor with a potentially profound impact on how our organization works, you are right! This is a large initiative so we’re going to focus on Banno, rather than the whole Digital Team, to limit the scope. Everyone is encouraged to follow along in the Slack channel #wg-improving-documentation-systems and make recommendations to the working group.
This is a big problem to solve, but I believe as a group we can come up with a great solution that works for us.
