Background / Context
The Banno team has “team introductions for new hires” which are a way to help introduce new employees to the various teams and faces at Banno.
These team introductions are scheduled as 30-minute meetings which are available once per month1.
Guidance on what could hypothetically be covered:
The designated people from each team should plan to lead the conversation and make people feel welcome and free to ask questions. Every team may approach the conversation differently, but the following information could be helpful to go over.
- What does your team do?
- How do they interact with other teams at Banno? Meetings, Slack, etc?
- Who are the people on your team?
- What does your day to day look like?
- What are some of your challenges?
- What do you love about what you do?
- Ask about the new hires. What’s their background, what do they do at Banno?
When?
Booked on the calendar as "New Hires Intro: Developer Relations team"
- Monthly on the fourth Friday
- 12:00pm – 12:30pm Central Time
How we introduce our team
This doesn’t have to be strictly followed…more of a ‘guideline’ to help add some structure to the meeting in case there aren’t many questions from the attendees.
What does your team do?
Probably best to help folks understand:
How do they interact with other teams at Banno? Meetings, Slack, etc?
We have a Contact Us page which more or less describes the various ways in which folks get in touch with the DevRel team.
Who are the people on your team?
- Jaime Lopez (manager)
- Sam Couch
- Jim Honeycutt
What does your day to day look like?
(This will vary per person, but the general gist is that we help developers via documentation, office hours, sometimes meetings. Feel free to talk about what comes to mind.)
What are some of your challenges?
In general, we have challenges with:
- believe it or not, getting folks to read the docs
- splitting focus between Internal (JHA) developers and External developers
- splitting focus between Financial Institutions and Fintechs
- having to work cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Design, Operations, Support, Marketing, Strategy teams within Banno, Digital, and beyond at Jack Henry.
What do you love about what you do?
It all comes down to helping people.
Also, working on cool, industry-leading tech.
Ask about the new hires. What’s their background, what do they do at Banno?
(This is the easiest one for us since we get to ask them the above questions.)
Presumably the ‘once per month’ is to ensure that each new hire gets an opportunity to meet the various teams, without having to worry about ad-hoc meetings to cover everyone. ↩︎
