Why is this important?
When new people join the Banno organization, we want to do all we can to make them feel welcome and give them the resources they need to be successful. One way of doing this is to arrange face-to-face introductions for team leads and new hires. This allows new hires to learn about the different teams at Banno and how they contribute to our overall success. It is also helpful for team leads to understand how other teams are growing.
How does it work?
Designated individuals from each team set aside a recurring, 30 minute calendar event each month. (Please keep in mind time zones.) There is a Google Calendar called Team intros for new hires where all events should be posted for visibility.
People setting the meeting time will need to be added to this calendar and have managing permissions. Once they have access, they can add a recurring event.
People scheduling meetings for new hires should join the calendar with the link above, and edit events to add the new hire to the invite. The invite will show on invitees’ personal calendar.
When does it happen?
Weekday afternoons or Fridays work best. Ideally, a new hire wouldn’t have these introduction meetings during their first week since they will already have a lot of information coming at them.
Who does it involve?
Team leads and other members as they see fit.
What information is covered?
The designated people from each team should plan to lead the conversation and make people feel welcome and free to ask questions. Every team may approach the conversation differently, but the following information could be helpful to go over.
- What does your team do?
- How do they interact with other teams at Banno? Meetings, Slack, etc?
- Who are the people on your team?
- What does your day to day look like?
- What are some of your challenges?
- What do you love about what you do?
- Ask about the new hires. What’s their background, what do they do at Banno?
