Tech Discussion Events

The Tech Discussion Events calendar is shared with the entire Banno organization and is the mechanism by which we schedule all of our tech talks, book clubs, and other learning opportunities. These events are usually build around our Special Interest Groups. As attendence for these events are both optional and open to all, we follow these steps for scheduling a talk:

  • Add the talk to the Tech Discussion Events calendar.
  • Add a description and location, generally associating it with a relevant SIG.
    • Most of the time, you’ll want a Zoom meeting to make recording the talk easier and to allow for the maximum number of participants. If you don’t have credentials to create a Zoom meeting, simply ask for assistance in the associated SIG.
  • Ping the relevant #sig- channel in Slack. Feel free to @channel ping for upcoming talks.
  • Those that are interested can add themselves to the invite, or add the event to their own calendar if needed.

This should give us the maximum visibility without needing to keep a dedicated list of members for each SIG.

Be aware that any events on the Tech Discussion Events calendar are open to join. If your book clubs, standups, or talks are on that calendar, anyone in the organization is free to join.
