We record as many of our internal talks as possible. These cover a wide range of topics, from cultural talks, to technical talks, to All Hands meetings on the current status of the team. All of our talks are uploaded to Google Drive and are indexed here. For those adventerous few who want to dig through the entire lot of our uploaded talks, they can be found in our Talks Drive folder.
For more information on how we schedule tech talks, see our outline of the Tech Discussion Events calendar.
How We Work
How We Work talks give an overview of how we handle a variety of cultural and process problems within our organization. This can be about anything from conflict or energy management to specific balance points in our organization, like product and engineering or how we solve problems.
All Hands
Our group holds a monthly All Hands meeting to discuss our current status as a group and address any feedback or large changes over the last month. Most of these are recorded and uploaded for those that were unable to make it, though specific meetings may not be uploaded if the content is of a sensitive nature.
Engineering All Hands
We also hold an All Hands meeting specifically for the engineering group about once a month, tackling issues and changes specific to that group. These are also recorded and available for those that were unable to attend.
Tech Talks
Tech Talks are semi-regular technical discussions over specific problems, projects, or concepts. Generally, these take the form of a lecture followed by time for questions, though we also do larger workshops from time to time.
In addition to our larger Tech Talk drive, we have a number of team or discipline specific talks to note.
JavaScript Sessions
Chad Killingsworth has produced a number of introductory JavaScript talks for students he teaches. These are available for the Banno group as well, and will be especially useful to new JavaScript apprentices.
- HTML5 as a Semantic Language
- Quirks of the Box Model
- Intro to JavaScript Types
- JavaScript Scopes
- URLs, Routing, and State Management in Single Page Apps
- Frontend Input Validation
iOS Code Readings
The iOS team holds a weekly code reading within their team. The recorded sessions are uploaded for later viewing.
FP Academy
The FP Academy series was prepared by Ryan Delucchi and Chris Davenport and walks through the fundamental Functional Programming knowledge necessary to work within our Scala codebase. While these are focused on FP, there is foundational information that may be useful to engineers regardless of discipline.
